Treat Scratches, Nicks and Abrasions
For severe white rings and crazing, apply Restor A Finish with super fine (4 O or OOOO) steel wool. Do not pour directly on the finish. When working with the steel wool, first determine the pressure you should use on an inconspicuous spot, as the hardness of finishes vary. Always rub with the grain of the wood.
White Heat Rings, Water or Smoke Damaged Wood
Restor A Finish eliminates white heat rings and watermarks on wood finishes. Plus, repair oxidation on wood finishes. Apply Restore A Finish with the OOOO steel wool and rub hard enough with the grain to blend out the white effect, check your progress as you go. If a high gloss finish should appear dull due to the use of steel wool, polish it out with Howards Product Restore A Shine Burnishing Cream and/or Polishing Compound.
Revive Faded Finishes
To revive faded wood, use a clean cloth, wipe on your chosen color of Restor A Finish. Let is stand for a few minutes, and wipe dry. If you desire a slightly darker shade, simply apply a darker color of Restor A Finish. Follow up with Citrus Shield or Touch of Beeswax to protect and maintain the restored finish.
Raised and Blistered Finishes
Apply Neutral Restor A Finish (to prevent darkening of exposed wood beyond the temporary ‘wet effect’) with the OOOO steel wool. As blisters soften, press down while Restor A Finish is applied. Wipe dry, and again later if the surface ‘blooms’ with excess Restor A Finish. Follow up with Citrus Shield or Touch of Beeswax.
Restore Minor Crazed or Checked Finishes
Apply Restor A Finish with Fine Grade (OOO) steel wool. Be sure to rub hard enough to smooth out the finish, periodically checking your progress. Checked or crazed surfaces may absorb an excess of Restor A Finish and ‘bloom out’, this may require another wiping later.
Treat Carved Wood
Restore A Finish has saved many hours of hard labor by quickly and easily cleaning and restoring the finish on carved portions of furniture and clocks. Simply apply Restore A Finish with a small paintbrush or soft toothbrush and wipe off.
